player. 58. . Linebacker. Washington Commanders. Nephi Sewell. 189

I can already hear certain Washington Commander fans being upset with the fact that they haven’t selected a Linebacker just yet. I get it, and I know. They need another Linebacker on this roster.

So, they’ll finally add a linebacker out of the University of Utah.

Brother of Penei Sewell, Nephi Sewell is a former safety turned linebacker that shows flashes of his past self in his current position. Sewell allowed a passer rating of 68.6 when targeted in coverage while finishing his 2021 season with 12 coverage stops on the year. He also had a missed tackle rate that placed him around the 75th-percentile among all linebackers last year, while finishing with 29 run stops.

Sewell is also a superb athlete at the position and wins often with his eyes and his understanding of the game. He’s a bit undersized for the position at the NFL level, but he has the tools athletically and the tools as a natural football player to succeed in the big leagues.

With that said, Sewell most likely carves out a role as a special teamer in year one, with a low volume rotational spot as a Linebacker in obvious passing situations.
