3 insane stats that show how much Commanders will miss Brandon Scherff
By Jerry Trotta
1. Win-Loss Record Without Scherff
It’s one thing when a position group struggles without a specific player. It’s entirely different when an entire team struggles without a specific player.
Yes, Washington’s pass-blocking wasn’t nearly as proficient when Scherff was out of commission, but consider this: the team is 0-14 in games without the five-time Pro Bowler since the start of the 2019 season. That win-loss record expands to 2-20 without Scherff since the start of the 2018 campaign.
Enough said! While there’s an argument to be had in terms of how much offensive guards impact winning, this doesn’t appear to be a misleading stat.
It’d be one thing if Scherff only missed a handful of games, but the fact he’s missed 22 since 2018 (maybe why the Commanders didn’t sign him to a long-term deal) and the team won just TWO of those games tells you all you need to know.
We’re not saying Scherff is worth the money Jacksonville gave him, but fans should stop and consider these stats when reflecting upon his time in Washington. While a stingy negotiator and prone to the occasional nagging injury, Scherff is an outstanding player and he’ll continue to personify excellence in Jacksonville.
