1. Quandre Diggs

If Washington is looking for a player who is literally the anti-Landon Collins, Seahawks star Quandre Diggs fills that bill and then some. While Collins prefers to play closer to the line of scrimmage as a box linebacker, Diggs is a pure deep safety who patrols the backend of the secondary on every snap.

While Collins’ snaps at safety reduced in the second half of 2021, he still averaged north of 20 snaps per game in coverage over the final six contests.

Why does that matter? Well, because Diggs has experience playing alongside Jamal Adams, who’s seemingly a younger version of Collins given his struggles in coverage and prowess as a run-stopper and getting after the quarterback.

Diggs suffered a broken fibula in the final game of the season, but he already underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery by the start of training camp. In other words, the injury shouldn’t dissuade Washington from signing the 29-year-old, who’s evolved into one of the NFL’s best safeties.

Since 2019, he’s intercepted 21.6% of passes that targeted him in coverage, which is the top percentage among safeties, per PFF. In the last two seasons, both of which saw him earn Pro Bowl honors, Diggs racked up 158 tackles, 10 interceptions, 17 passes defended and a 75.9 tackling grade.

Pro Football Focus projects Diggs to sign a three-year deal worth $8 million annually. Should the Commanders choose to let McCain test free agency, that price tag aligns perfectly with their offseason spending budget.
