Tim Settle, DL

Another player who would force fans to revolt if he was let go, Settle has impressed whenever his number’s been called over the last three seasons. We’d love to see him in a full-time role with Washington, but that will likely hinge on whether Daron Payne is traded this offseason.

Corn Elder, CB/ST

A former fifth-round draft pick of Ron Rivera’s Panthers in 2017, Elder played just five games for Washington in 2021, bouncing around the practice squad and active roster as a rotation guy at cornerback and on special teams.

Troy Apke, S/ST

Apke was drafted by Washington in the fourth round in 2018. While the Penn State product played sparingly as a free safety, he’s developed into a viable special teams gunner and his presence will be missed if he doesn’t return.

Jamil Douglas, OG

Last but certainly not least on the unrestricted free agent front is Douglas, whom Washington claimed off waivers by Buffalo in mid-December. He appeared in the final three games, logging 11 snaps as a blocker for the kicking unit.

Who are Washington’s restricted free agents in 2022?

Kyle Allen, QB

It’s a shame we couldn’t see Allen more than we did over the final month of the regular season. Traded for a fifth-round pick last year, the 25-year-old enters free agency having appeared in just six games (four starts) for Washington.

Jordan Kunaszyk, LB/ST

Another Ron Rivera disciple, Kunaszyk has spent the last two seasons in Washington after spending his rookie year in Carolina. He’s been a regular contributor on special teams, logging a combined 62.4% snap share in 2020 and 2021.

Who are Washington’s exclusive rights free agents in 2022?

An exclusive rights free agent is designated for players with fewer than three years of experience in the NFL. Should they exercise this right, Washington can offer-a one-year deal at the league minimum to keep these players.

Najee Toran, OT

Toran was signed as a UDFA by the 49ers in 2018. He was cut the following preseason and spent 2019 on the Patriots’ practice squad before he opted out of 2020 amid the pandemic. That brought him to Washington, which placed him on the reserve/did not report list at the start of training camp in July.

Jalen Jelks, OLB

Jelks was actually a seventh-round draft pick by the Cowboys in 2019. He was cut before the regular season to make room for Everson Griffen and has since made pit stops in Carolina and Cleveland before Washington signed him to a reserve/futures contract last January.

2022 Free Agents signed by Washington:

David Mayo, LB/ST

Mayo entered the season as a core special teamer, but he found himself getting significant snaps at linebacker over the remaining four games with rookie Jamin Davis struggling to adapt to the mike linebacker role. On Friday, Washington announced they signed Mayo to a one-year contract extension.

This will be continually updated as offseason signing begins.
