1. Derek Carr

We said “likely” won’t be available for trade. Not definitely.

While Carr has yet to commit to a future with the Raiders, can you really expect them to move off the star QB after this season?

His stats are one thing, but the fact he had Las Vegas in the playoffs after Jon Gruden’s ugly dismissal and Henry Ruggs’ highly disturbing arrest and subsequent release suggests they’ll do everything possible to convince him to stay.

Wouldn’t you know it, just hours before Carr and the Raiders took the field against the Bengals on Saturday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Carr’s future will likely be baked into Las Vegas’ head coach hiring this offseason.

Assuming the three-time Pro Bowler is involved in that process and the Raiders pick a candidate whom he’s fond of, he’s probably going to stay. If you remember, he’s on the record saying he’d probably quit football rather than play for another team.

At the same time, tough, Carr has one year left on his five-year $125 million contract and has more than earned another lucrative deal. If the Raiders don’t push to reward him, that could set the stage for his departure.

Again, Las Vegas would be nuts to let Carr go. He was instrumental in keeping the locker room together after the Gruden and Ruggs incidents and has proven time and time against to be an elite QB in a QB-dominated league.

If we had to put our money on it, we’d say that Carr will stay with the Raiders, leaving Washington to turn elsewhere in their pursuit of a quarterback.
