Possible sponsors for new Washington Football Team stadium
7 – GEICO
GEICO has spent a lot of money on advertising over the last two decades. From the “Mr. Know-It-All” and caveman commercials to the Gecko and saving you a certain percent, the Chevy Chase, MD insurance giant has generated plenty of catchphrases and gimmicks over the years. The bottom line – it works incredibly well.
GEICO is heavily involved in NASCAR as one of the four major sponsors of the highest division Cup Series. They are also a major sponsor of the NHL and the Washington Capitals. Many Caps players over the years have been featured in various local GEICO commercials in the DMV. A number of celebrities have been featured in GEICO campaigns in the past – most notably Joan Rivers and Little Richard in comedic roles.
Could GEICO make a leap to the NFL and sponsor a stadium for the Burgundy and Gold? In a typical year, the insurance conglomerate rakes in more than $30 billion. That is second only to State Farm. Is GEICO willing to make such a move? Scoop, there it is and what it could be!
Are you willing to spend a buck?
6 – Dollar Tree
What? Who? Really? “Dollar” stores have been popping up in the cities, suburbs, and rural areas of the United States since the 1980s. Popular chains continue to grow and add more stores throughout the country. They are convenient, affordable, and desirable for all income groups. Do you need to pick up a soda on the way home tonight after work? Need a couple of rolls of toilet paper? How about some batteries for that remote in your family room? Dollar stores have all that and more and Dollar Tree is one of the most popular chains in the country today. In recent years, DT has expanded its reach into Canada and it is just a matter of time until they build stores in additional countries.
Dollar Tree is headquartered in Chesapeake, VA – a traditional Washington Football Team territory. All of the Hampton Roads area (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, Williamsburg, etc.) is Burgundy and Gold country. Dollar Tree is the one-dollar chain that could sponsor a football stadium. With more than 15,000 stores in the lower 48 states, DT brings in well over $1 billion a year. By the way, could you pick up some snacks at Dollar Tree for the tailgate at my place this week? It’s affordable!
5 – Monster Energy
Energy drinks at one time were considered to be an elite athlete drink of choice for extreme sports such as mountain climbing, mega hiking, ultra-marathons, triathlons, and many others. However, that was more of a myth from the marketing of such drinks. Energy drinks have become more mainstream in the young millennium as more people in the younger sector enjoy the boost and spark that it gives them.
Monster Energy is one of the undisputed leaders in the industry and has grown considerably over the last decade. It enjoys close to a 35% share of the market and that is second by a small margin to Red Bull. The Corona, CA drink giant continues to add to the extreme sports myth by sponsoring such endeavors on a very large scale. For three years (2017-2019), they were the premier sponsor of the NASCAR Cup Series and continue to be a primary sponsor for NASCAR champion Kurt Busch in the #45 Toyota Camry that is owned by retired basketball star Michael Jordan.
Monster also sponsors F1 driving star Lewis Hamilton and all-time golfing great Tiger Woods. You will also see Monster sponsoring many large musical events featuring the biggest stars in the world today. Other sponsorships are too numerous to list here, but it gives you an idea of the income it creates year after year. Is Monster Energy interested in partnering with the Washington Football Team?

4 – Marriott International
The hospitality industry is very competitive and each company is looking to provide you with the best service possible – all with friendly smiles on their faces. Hotels come in different shapes and sizes and range from mom and pop operations to elegant (and expensive) five-star options. The better the lodging, the more you will pay. Marriot International is the largest chain in the world and you will always find the Book of Mormon in each room – the chain was founded by devout Mormons.
The Bethesda, MD hotel chain started as a root beer stand in Washington, DC back in 1927. Nearly 30 years later, the first hotel opened in Arlington, VA and another one was added in Arlington two years later. Marriott was on its way to becoming the massive hospitality conglomerate that we see today. Along the way, Marriott has added more than two dozen brands to their portfolio including Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Sheraton, Renaissance, Courtyard, Fairfield, Gaylord, and Westin.
Will this local hotel chain extend some hospitality to the Washington Football Team and sponsor a new stadium. They have no presence in the world of sports, but there is a first time for everything. Marriott generates more than $20 billion annually in revenue, but they did take a financial hit in 2020 and 2021 with the pandemic. If Marriott sponsors the stadium, Washington will likely sever their ties with MGM Resorts.
