1. Jaret Patterson deserves a roster spot.

We touched on Jaret Patterson a little earlier and we want to apologize for even speculating that his roster spot is in question. While there’s no way to know what Rivera is thinking, surely he can’t deny what he’s seeing from Patterson, right?

From being sure-handed in the passing game, to being a first down machine and looking like the most slippery RB on the roster (in terms of making defenders miss), Patterson’s done everything in his power over these two preseason games to sake his claim for a roster spot.

Jaret Patterson getting cut would send a bad message.

We know Washington’s running back room is loaded, but you simply can’t tell us that they can’t carve out a role for Patterson, even if it’s as little as five touches per game.

The former undrafted talent could even be deployed on special teams. Though he needs to work on catching kickoffs, he took off for 37 yards (!) on his only return in the game. If he can do that at a consistent rate, just go ahead and give him a roster spot right now.

Gibson is he undisputed workhorse, but Patterson needs a role on the 2021 offense. No matter how small, the preseason MVP has earned it.
