3. Starting offensive tackles: Charles Leno Jr. vs. Cornelius Lucas vs. Sam Cosmi

Washington dealt with the departure of Trent Williams last season following his 2019 holdout. This year, they’ll be dealing with Morgan Moses’ departure after the team cut him following the 2021 NFL Draft.

To replace Moses, Washington signed former Bears starting tackle Charles Leno Jr. This was after they drafted Sam Cosmi in the second round. The team also has Cornelius Lucas on the roster, and he played surprisingly well at the left tackle spot last year.

So, Washington has options. It’s just a question of how they decide to deploy them.

Right now, Leno Jr. seems to be the favorite to start on the left side. He has played in 102 games in his career with 94 starts and he has almost exclusively played left tackle. So, he will probably be the favorite to start there.

The bigger question is whether Lucas or Cosmi will start on the right side. Cosmi has more long-term upside but Lucas has more starting experience the last two years. He also was better on the right side for Chicago in 2019 than he was on the left for Washington in 2020, so either way, Washington should be in decent shape at the position.

Offensive line battles don’t always feature marquee names, but they are absolutely important. And this one will be critical for Washington.
