Running Backs

On the Roster:

  • Antonio Gibson
  • J.D. McKissic
  • Peyton Barber
  • Lamar Miller
  • Jaret Patterson
  • Jonathan Williams

There’s a lot of guys for the Washington Football Team to choose from this season. If Rivera and his staff choose to only keep a traditional number of backs on the roster, there will be three names left here come the season opener. My prediction is Gibson, McKissic, and Patterson shape up the running back room.

Gibson played very well in his 2020 rookie campaign. Converting from a wide receiver in college, Gibson had a lot to learn last year being a full-time back. While he heavily relied on raw talent early on, it was clear that Gibson started to understand the position as the season went on. This was exemplified in his Week 12 domination over the Cowboys. Gibson ran for 115 yards, 3 scores, and added 5 catches for another 21 yards.

Even though he was injured in a few games last year and wasn’t even the starter to begin the season, he had over 1,000 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns.

This year, with more experience under his belt, more expected touches, and a more lethal offense, Gibson should be able to build off of his strong rookie year where he finished RB14.

Verdict: Gibson could be Washington’s best fantasy player this year. He’ll be worth a second or third-round pick in most leagues. Draft him with confidence. J.D. McKissic also had a strong showing last year as Washington’s third-down back. However, with Alex Smith gone, there will likely be a lot less checkdown passes to him. He should only be owned as a flex player in bigger leagues or as a handcuff.
