Washington Football Team: What will the new training camp location be?
College town locations
For many years, the Washington Football Team chose to hold their training camp at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. The town and regional locals were glad to have the Burgundy and Gold in town. Many of them became fans of the team and their loyalty remains to the present day. It’s unlikely that Washington will return, but it could be an option.
College towns in Virginia include Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, Farmville, Williamsburg, and Blacksburg. The best option in this group would be Blacksburg, the home of Virginia Tech. The Hokies’ football facilities are the best of the aforementioned towns by a wide margin. Virginia Tech’s football infrastructure is head and shoulders above the rest and it would be a very good option for Washington. The Hokies and Football Team would need to work out an accommodating schedule.
College towns in Maryland include Salisbury, Westminster, Cumberland, Annapolis, and Frostburg. Annapolis has the facilities to make it work, but the logistics may not be in Washington’s favor. Salisbury and Cumberland could work if the facilities are improved and expanded upon, but the best option is probably Frostburg. From 1994 to 2000, Washington held their training camp at Frostburg State University and it could be a desirable location once again.
The best overall option from the college towns is Blacksburg. Would this football-crazy college town welcome the Washington Football Team? It’s probably not being considered, but it would definitely work for Virginia Tech and the Burgundy and Gold.
