Washington Football Team LB Jamin Davis eager to get started
By Ian Cummings
Jamin Davis was drafted by the Washington Football Team just yesterday, but he’s already itching to get to work.
A lot of factors went into the Washington Football Team’s decision to select Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Davis’ elite athleticism certainly played a role, but there were other contextual factors beyond that which also held weight. And as we learn more about Davis himself, we’re starting to see what those are.
Davis spoke to reporters via Zoom today, after flying in to D.C., and more than anything, expressed how excited he was to join up with Ron Rivera and the Washington Football Team.
Several quotes from the presser were shared from Washington Football Team writer Kyle Stackpole. Among those quotes, Davis expressed a desire to play with Washington’s defense and “fly around the field”, something he feels he’s proficient at.
Davis also mentioned his similarities with Ron Rivera as a reason he feels Washington is the right fit for him. Like Rivera, Davis came from a military family, and both play — or played — linebacker. Davis can learn from Washington’s experienced coaching staff, and he has the upside to mold.
Among other things, Davis emphasized the importance of seizing one’s opportunity, and said that one of the first things he asked when the Washington Football Team called him was “when can I get started?”
Davis also officially got his new number with the Washington Football Team. When he’s suiting up on Sundays, he’ll be wearing the No. 52 jersey. The last player to wear that number was 2017 second-round pick Ryan Anderson. With any luck, Davis can provide a larger impact.
On the surface, it seems as though Davis was a very good pick. He has tremendous athletic upside, but listening to him speak, it’s clear that he’s very humble, thankful, and excited to get started. He has some refinement to undergo, but his mentality could be exactly what he needs to see through his development quickly in year one.
I’ll try and give you guys a more in-depth breakdown of Davis’ traits soon. Splitting time with two sites during the draft right now, so things are kind of hectic.
Davis is the headliner of the Washington Football Team’s 2021 NFL Draft class, but he’ll be far from the only addition. The draft continues tonight, with Rounds 2 and 3 coming off the board in the evening hours. Stick with us here at Riggo’s Rag for pick-by-pick updates and analysis.
