Addressing the risks

That said, it’s important to address what the Washington Football Team might lose with that first-round pick. The third-round would be an excellent range to address a variety of positions, including wide receiver, offensive tackle, and tight end. Additionally, while their stock is rising, developmental quarterbacks like Kellen Mond and Davis Mills could potentially be available in that range.

In that situation, who would you spend a third-round pick for? A rookie with less encumbered developmental damage and a cheap four-year deal? Or a high-upside one-year project who’s developed many bad habits, but has never had a supporting cast worthy of confidence?

I’m leaning toward the rookie, but what if the draft board falls differently? What if Mond and Mills go in the second round, or the early third, as their building hype suggests they might? Then Washington might have to look elsewhere anyway.

The price is the driving force here. If the price for Darnold is still a second-rounder, this isn’t even a discussion. However, as Darnold’s price continues to drop, his potential value increases. And slowly but surely, the Washington Football Team is becoming a favorable destination for a quarterback trying to re-gain his footing.

What do you think the Washington Football Team should do, in light of the update from Pro Football Network? Should Washington stand pat and try to address quarterback in another way? Or should they keep monitoring Darnold’s situation? What if the value drops to a fourth-rounder? What then? Feel free to give us your thoughts in the comments section below!
