Round 4, Pick 2 – Notre Dame OL Robert Hainsey

Adding to a strength for the Washington Football Team, Robert Hainsey can play right tackle or right guard with no problem. Standing 6’4″ and weighing in over 300 pounds, Hainsey is polished, especially for a fourth-rounder.

He’s allowed only seven sacks as a four-year player at Notre Dame. Despite frame and length concerns, along with some technical issues, he was relatively effective both as a pass protector and a run blocker.

In 2020, Hainsey didn’t commit a single penalty, while only giving up two sacks. Pass-protection is his primary weakness, but he is very mobile and agile, and he’ll translate well in a zone-blocking scheme.

The Washington Football Team found success later on in 2020 after switching to a zone blocking-based scheme, and Hainsey would fit right in with that scheme from day one as a guard. Hainsey can become a stout run blocker and brings some pulling versatility, but will likely need seasons to develop.

Luckily for Hainsey, he’ll have one of the best right tackles and right guards in football to learn from, in Brandon Scherff and Morgan Moses.
