Ranking the greatest position groups in Washington Football Team history
By Tim Meek
No. 5 – Cornerback (Green, Champ, Fischer, Wilburn, DeAngelo, Bass, Dean, Smoot, Springs)
In 1983, Darrell Green was a rookie, slight of build, but huge in heart. He was also fast, very fast. That speed was showcased in his first career game with Washington.
Tony Dorsett had broken through the line and was racing down the sidelines on his way to what most figured to be an easy TD. Now enter Darrell Green, who wasn’t even in the picture frame as Dorsett broke free. But within moments, Green came blazing into view and tracked down Dorsett before he could score.
This was only the beginning of many legendary moments by Green over his 20 years in Washington. Many consider him to be the greatest Washington player of all-time. There have been some great cornerbacks in Washington, but everything begins with Green, who is one of two cornerbacks from Washington in Canton.
