Ranking the greatest position groups in Washington Football Team history
By Tim Meek
No. 7 – Quarterbacks (Sonny, Kilmer, Baugh, Theismann, Williams, Rypien, RG3, Kirk)
During Super Bowl XXII, Clint Didier was on the receiving end of an eight-yard touchdown pass from Doug Williams. That TD capped a second quarter for the history books that included four touchdown passes from Williams on 9 of11 passes for 228 yards (all Super Bowl Records during a historic second quarter).
That year, in 1988, Doug Williams became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
Washington has two quarterbacks in the Hall of Fame. However, none of the Super Bowl winning quarterbacks are in the Hall of Fame. Many of Washington’s better QBs over the years have been more of one-hit wonders than long time franchise QBs (Williams, Rypien, RG3) while other QBs (Kirk Cousins, Brad Johnson) would go on to find more success with other teams.
