No. 3 – Dak Prescott becomes a free agent, and signs with Washington

Okay, lets get real bold now. Dak Prescott should be a Cowboy for life, right? Well, not so fast. Dak Prescott is rumored to want to become the second-highest paid quarterback behind Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is slated to make $45M a year.

Signing a quarterback to $40M+ AAV contract that has not proved to be “elite” yet is risky. It is especially risky for Dallas considering their cap limitations due to a high payroll. If they signed Dak Prescott to a long-term contract, their team would be locked in place, without much room for improvement.

With that being said, while unlikely (hence the word bold), Dak could become a free agent. And if so, getting back at his old team for refusing to pay him top dollar could be expected. Well, with the  Washington Football Team, he would get to play the Cowboys twice a year. A perfect match.

And Prescott is someone that you could expect Washington to have high interest in. He came into the league as a fourth-round pick and has improved each year in the league. His QBR in 2020 was 99.6, and according to Next Gen Stats, he was either above-average or average in accuracy to most areas of the field. Dak Prescott also has mobility, something Scott Turner has been known to like his quarterbacks to have.

What will truly endear Prescott to Washington is his leadership. Jerry Jones has spoken highly of his leadership, and after breaking his ankle, Prescott still showed up every day to the facility. Most players would do treatment at a seperate facility, especially during this weird pandemic season.

In a year with a lower ceiling on the cap, and in a new age where each player gets to set the market at his position, Prescott could very well be playing for a new team next year. And if that happens, the Washington Football Team makes a lot of sense. Unlikely? Yes. Bold? Also, yes.
