Potential Washington Football Team free agent WR gems in 2021
Willie Snead, Ravens
I have always been a big Willie Snead fan from his time on the New Orleans Saints. Another undrafted free agent, Snead made the most of his time with the pass-heavy Saints, finishing with a combined 141 receptions and 1,879 yards in his first two seasons. In 2016, PFF ranked him as the NFL’s fifth-best slot receiver, behind Jarvis Landry, Julian Edelman, Cole Beasley, and Doug Baldwin.
In 2017, Snead fell down the depth chart after being suspended for off-field issues, before signing with the Ravens in 2018. He had a big year in 2018 with the Ravens, but his stats dropped in 2019 and 2020. He saw far fewer targets, as Baltimore had a bottom-ranked passing offense.
If you break down his numbers by targets, a case could be made that Snead’s performance with Baltimore actually improved during his time with the franchise.
In 2018, he saw 95 targets and finished with 62 receptions, 651 yards, and one touchdown. In 2019 and 2020 combined, he saw 94 targets and finished with 64 receptions, 771 yards, and eight touchdowns.
In 2020, he had a 109.0 passer rating when targeted and finished the season with a 68.8% catch rate, which is better than Brandin Cooks, Allen Robinson, Tyreek Hill, and Terry McLaurin.
With his reduced numbers in Baltimore, and an abundance of wide receivers available in free agency, Snead would be a very good low-cost signing for the Washington Football Team.
