Round 5, Pick 150: WR Jaelon Darden, North Texas

Like Elijah Moore, Jaelon Darden is electric. His speed and quickness jump off the screen whenever you watch him play. His quick-twitch athleticism and elusiveness make him very fun to watch after the catch. He made taking a screen to the house look easy.

Darden has a relatively small frame so his role in the NFL could be relegated to a rotational piece in the slot. His skill set is very similar to that of Elijah Moore’s, but passing on speed and elusiveness like Darden’s at this stage is foolish.

Moore and Darden will provide a jolt of athleticism into Scott Turner’s offense. And with Turner’s offense relying on a quick passing game Darden should fit seamlessly into the Turner scheme.

Darden also has experience as a return man in college. He spent two seasons at North Texas as the primary punt returner. A dangerous return man could add an extra element to the Washington Football Team and could also give a boost to an offense that could still be in its early developmental stages next year.

At the very least, Darden could push Steven Sims Jr. as the punt returner after Sims struggled badly in that aspect of the game last year.

Darden projects best as a slot receiver at the next level. That combined with his potential on special teams with his elite speed, makes him the perfect choice in Round 5.
