Potential Washington Football Team free agent RB gems
Ameer Abdullah
Again, this would be a signing based on potential more than NFL production. Abdullah was drafted by the Lions in the second round in the 2015 draft, after a senior year where he averaged 6.1 yards per carry and had 19 rushing touchdowns for Nebraska. He won MVP honors in the Senior Bowl and his scouting report compared him to LeSean McCoy.
Abdullah never developed into a lead back with the Lions. He missed the majority of his second year with a torn ligament in his foot. He did lead the league in kick-return yardage in his rookie year.
For the past two seasons, he was with the Vikings where he played behind Dalvin Cook while also serving as a kick returner. In his limited rushing attempts during his two seasons with the Vikings, he averaged 5.06 yards per carry while also averaging 24.17 yards per return.
Could he resurrect his career and become a top back? Doubtful, but he could provide another intriguing option out of the backfield.
