Washington Football Team Free Agency Evaluation – Defensive Line
Additional Thoughts
The defensive line for the Washington Football Team is unquestionably the best overall unit in Ashburn. Adding one or two talented players will only make the line even better in 2021. A starter is not needed, but a couple of players who can provide quality depth is obviously preferred.
Washington is very likely to move on from long-time sack specialist Ryan Kerrigan. Over the last two years, his level of play has dropped significantly in the second half of each season. He has also become a liability as a run-stopper. Kerrigan will either retire or try to find a new home during this offseason. Washington’s all-time sack leader will be missed by the fans, but the team must proceed in a different direction now. We wish him the best going forward.
Ryan Anderson has struggled for most of his four seasons in Washington and the front office will not offer the former Alabama standout a new contract. After Washington switched to the 4-3 defense in 2020, Anderson seemed hopelessly lost. He will be living in a new zip code later this year.
Also, the pool of talented restricted free agent defensive linemen is somewhat small, but here are three players that could be of interest to the Washington Football Team.
- Poona Ford, Seahawks
- Ifeadi Odenigbo, Vikings
- P.J. Hall, Texans
The next article in this series will now shift to the offense (offensive line) and what the Washington Football Team may consider in free agency. Also, we will have a post-Super Bowl, full free agency update in the coming days.
