Washington Football Team Free Agency Evaluation – Defensive Line
Lower Tier
Tarell Basham, Jets
Tarell Basham is not the flashiest of edge rushers or the most powerful defensive end, but the former Ohio Bobcat is a fairly good depth player and will provide solid minutes when he is on the field. Basham can be somewhat inconsistent at times, but he has steadily improved since his rookie season in 2017. He is still a work in progress, but the good news is that his peak is still to come. Will the Washington Football Team add Basham at a time when he is still ascending as a player?
Deatrich Wise, Patriots
Deatrich Wise will not overwhelm you with his athleticism or statistics, but he will reward any team that invests in him with solid play in all facets of the game. Do you need a rotational defensive lineman who can provide you with four or five sacks a year? Do you need a rotational run-stuffer who can provide you with forty or more tackles a year? Do you want a rotational defensive lineman who can provide you with a couple of fumble recoveries a year? If so, then Deatrich Wise is your guy.
Romeo Okwara, Lions
Romeo Okwara had something of a forgettable first three years in the league, but he exploded with a spectacular 2020. Is this another case of buyer beware or a player who is ready to make an impact in the coming years? If Okwara is willing to take a modest three-year contract with incentives, then Washington could be interested in his services.
Prediction: Each of these three players would be a solid depth signing, but Okwara could be a buyer beware problem or a good reward on a reasonable contract.
