Washington Football Team: Mock free agency, roster cuts, trades
Washington Football Team free agent signings: Will Fuller
With the Football Team upgrading at WILL, one thing they also need is a pair of competent receiver options to go with Terry McLaurin and Deshaun Watson.
Washington shouldn’t spend significant money at this position in free agency considering how deep this receiver class is in the ‘21 Draft, but signing a competent Z-receiver if the price is right makes all the dollars and sense in the world.
Earlier we talked about WILL, now we’ll discuss Will. Washington should look to sign Texans wideout Will Fuller V.
Washington Commanders
Fuller is coming off one of his best seasons prior to his suspension for PEDs, a claim he adamantly denies knowing about. Nonetheless, he performed exceptionally well on the field this past season, as he snagged 53 balls for 879 yards and eight trips to the end zone throughout only 10 games.
Fuller has never played a full 16 games in his career due to injury and, now, his first mishap ever off the field, but when he’s on the field he’s one of the best deep threats in the game.
Fuller is a savvy deep threat who can defeat corners with his footwork and quick hips. He plays fast and looks to take every and anything to the house when the ball is in his hands.
Scott Turner values speed and versatility above all else in his offense. He likes to use gadget guys, guys who are fast and simply do whatever he can to get them the ball in their hands, in space. While Turner would like to push the ball down the field, the personnel hasn’t always matched that plan. An addition of Fuller gives this team a new dynamic that is needed.
You couple that with the fact that he has significant chemistry with Watson, the fit for this offense, and this WR makes all the sense in the world.
A deal for Fuller, considering his injury history and that he only one year of high-level productivity would look be for two years, $20 million total. A deal like this still leaves this team with over $26 million in cap space, but the fit and contract structure is similar to a guy like Robby Anderson.
Anderson last season signed this bargain of a deal, with $12 million in the first year and $8 in the second. With a similar skillset and similar production, Fuller and Anderson could have identical deals just one year apart from one another signing them.
This deal would bring a dynamic to this offense that is much needed. This team finally gets an above-average WR2 across McLaurin, a deep threat who can help open up the intermediate passing game for Logan Thomas and one of the Sims’.
