Washington Football Team: 7-round all-Senior Bowl mock draft
Round 7, Pick 210: WR Cade Johnson, South Dakota State
Here’s a second receiver for Washington. They need to continue to add depth to their receiver room and more specifically, they need depth at the slot spot.
Steven Sims Jr. was a disappointment last year after having a strong rookie campaign. The team needs to bring in more competition for him and Isaiah Wright, so grabbing another prototypical slot player in Round 7 seems like a good move.
NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah called Cade Johnson one of the 10 biggest practice winners of Senior Bowl week. Here’s what he said about Johnson’s performance in Mobile.
"Johnson did not play this fall because the Missouri Valley Conference postponed its football season until the spring, but he showed no signs of rust during practice. He consistently won in one-on-one drills, flashing his impressive quickness. If your NFL team needs a good slot receiver, Johnson is a player to keep an eye on."
“Impressive quickness” is surely a good thing and at 5-foot-10, 186 pounds, he is thick enough to do well in the slot, retain that speed, and make a potential impact. At the very least, he can help push Sims and potentially serve as a kick return option for the squad.
The last time Johnson played competitive football, he had 72 catches, 1,222 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. That’s rock-solid production and if he continues to work out well, odds are he’ll go earlier on Day 3 than this. For now though, we’ll snap him up here and continue to add offensive weapons to the team.
