Five prospects the Washington Football Team should draft after Senior Bowl
Baron Browning was one of the best players on the field on Saturday. He got a chance to play a bigger role than the one he did at Ohio State and he thrived as a result.
Browning played all over the linebacker corps. He got some time in as a stand-up guy and played on the edge. The results were excellent. He was consistently able to get into the backfield to make tackles for loss and generated a lot of pressure on the day as well.
Notably, when Jamie Newman was in the game, Browning’s athletic ability stood out. When he was chasing the quarterback, Newman stood little chance of avoiding him. And when Browning got on the edge against running backs, he was able to stretch them out and contain them. That may stand out above all else, as linebackers with that type of athleticism are critical to fielding strong defenses.
The game was a nice cap to a strong week from Browning. He has solidified himself as a Day 2 prospect, and it would seem that he has a strong chance of going in Round 2 and if he somehow doesn’t go there, he will be an early Round 3 pick.
Washington should have a high level of interest in Browning. Their defense lacks a true three-down linebacker and Browning could fill that hole. Either way, pairing him with the hyper-athletic Cole Holcomb would add some needed speed to the Washington defense, and behind their stellar defensive line, that could end up being a big-time acquisition.
Browning will be featured in our next seven-round WFT mock draft, so keep an eye out for that. His performance on Sunday should only continue to improve his draft stock.
