Why Washington Football Team shouldn’t force a free-agent QB

I understand this isn’t going to be the most popular direction with the fans.  But for years we’ve asked for change.  We are tired of winning off the field.  Winning off the field would’ve led to the team acquiring Austin Hooper and James Bradberry over the more effective and cost-efficient Logan Thomas and Ronald Darby.

It could be argued that QB is less important this year based on who is available.  By important, let me clarify, I’m referring to emphasis.  The emphasis should remain on improving this defense to catapult the unit to elite levels.  To win a Super Bowl, one side of the ball must be elite.  In Washington, the defense can be that unit (and no, this group is NOT elite, yet!).

The emphasis should be on building a great offensive line.  There have been some rather average QBs that look pretty good behind a good offensive line.  Even the great QBs struggle under pressure.

My point, there’s no need to force QB this offseason.  Panic, desperation, and quick fixes are ploys of the previous regime and they lead to overpaying for players and loss of draft picks.

Giant leaps can be made without splash signings.  Under-the-radar moves can prove to be more valuable.  As long as the steps remain going forward we should be content.  Rivera and company understand the window they have to win better than any of us.  Be confident and support whatever direction they choose at QB because it’s calculated and has a vision that exceeds what we understand because it’s part of a plan.

Most importantly, decisions are being made with the best interest of the organization in mind, not to appease fans or the owner.

If this team is going to win a Super Bowl, it’s likely going to happen with a QB they draft, it’s a proven fact.  If they are going to win with a guy they bring in from another team, well, quite frankly, it’s more likely to be an under-the-radar guy than a big splash.
