Five offensive players Washington Football Team should watch during the Senior Bowl
Washington’s tight end group looked very weak on paper last year, but Logan Thomas emerged as a strong started and put together a career year. Thomas can certainly be trusted as a starter next year thanks to his athletic ability, but adding another tight end to an otherwise barren room would make sense.
Enter Hunter Long. The Boston College product was well-coached by Steve Addazio and Jeff Hafley during his career with the team and is one of the better-rounded tight ends in this year’s class.
Long is considered to be one of the better tight ends at the Senior Bowl — if not, the best. Long has shown well in blocking drills this week, which is hardly a surprise given the ground-dominant rushing attack he played in during his first couple of years with the BC program, but he has also shown solid receiving ability. His 6-foot-5 frame will allow him to hold up well in the NFL and while he’s not a dynamic athlete, he can be a complete player.

Long would complement Thomas well. Both are physically imposing, but Long could serve as more of a blocker and open things up for Thomas in the passing game. Either way, he’d be better than Marcus Baugh, Jeremy Sprinkle, and Temarrick Hemingway, all of who were just average at best last year.
During the Senior Bowl, Long will get a chance to show off his skill set. And if he proves to be a top-tier blocker, he will have a chance to be an early Day 2 pick and may be the second tight end off the board. Because of their need for depth at the position, Washington should be watching Long. He’s a pro-ready option and would be a nice 1B option to the 1A that is Thomas.
