Washington Football Team: Upper-tier safety targets

Anthony Harris

Strong, persistent rumors link Anthony Harris to the Washington Football Team this offseason.  Harris is one of the best free safeties in the game and while he would be a costly signing, the former Virginia Cavalier would not have a negative effect on the overall cap space.

If the rumors are true, Harris would be a major upgrade and possibly the best free safety on the roster since Sean Taylor.

Justin Simmons

Justin Simmons is probably the best overall free safety in this free-agent class, but Harris is close behind.  Simmons is likely to be retained by Denver and sign a long term contract.  If he somehow becomes available, the front office is very likely to have an interest in him.

Simmons would probably command a bit more than Harris on the open market and that could be one reason why the team is rumored to like Harris over the former Boston College standout.

Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams is one of the better free safeties in the NFL, but he is just a half step behind Simmons and Harris.  New Orleans is facing a huge cap deficit and will likely let Williams walk in the coming weeks.

Williams could be a target if the Washington Football Team faces any kind of bidding war for Harris.  Too, his contract would potentially be slightly less than what we are likely to see from Simmons or Harris.

Prediction:  Washington signs Anthony Harris to a four-year, $52 million contract with $15.5 million guaranteed.
