Wrap Up

It’s important to remember that this is just one of the many ways that Washington’s offseason could go. We don’t even know who their GM is yet or whether or not Alex Smith is returning for 2021. Before those decisions are made, it’s hard to prognosticate exactly what will happen.

That said, the roster looks like a strong one. We’ve patched some of the biggest weaknesses for the squad. In particular, the Robinson-McLaurin-Samuel receiving corps looks excellent and should spark the offense after being a weakness last year.

On defense, the front still looks great and the secondary should be stronger thanks to the decision to re-sign Darby, sign Hooker, and draft LeCounte. Adding a depth corner may have helped more back there, but Fabian Moreau and Jimmy Moreland will do as top backups/slot options.

The potential weaknesses of this team are the quarterback spot and the linebacker spot. Jones is a good-looking prospect, but will he succeed as a rookie? That remains to be seen. He, Heinicke, and Allen give the room some young upside, but there’s no sure-fire answer there despite the fans’ wishes.

Meanwhile, the linebacker spot will depend on how Surratt fares. He has the athletic profile and instincts needed to make an impact, but he’s still developing at the position. Maybe Landon Collins could shift down to the position and make an impact there, but there are no definitive upgrades at that spot.

Still, Washington’s defense can hold up even if their linebacker corps is merely decent at best. And on offense, one of their quarterbacks should be able to distribute balls to their now-overflowing arsenal of weapons. That should allow this roster to be competitive.

Again, at the end of the day, this is just one of the many ways Washington’s offseason could shake out and we’ll likely look at some more potential options for them, including trading for or signing a free-agent quarterback. But the common theme of this exercise shows that there are many ways for Washington to upgrade their team this offseason.

And they’ll certainly find a way to do just that.
