4. LG Wes Schweitzer

Wes Schweitzer was one of the most improved players on the entire Washington Football Team in 2020. When he had his first action against Arizona in Week 2, he looked like a backup guard usually looks. Today, he is coming off his best season in the NFL.

Schweitzer was very solid this year at left guard for the Washington Football Team. Unless Washington is able to find an absolute gem this offseason, I fully expect Schweitzer to be the starting left guard for Washington in 2021.

His run blocking is clearly his strength. He is a mauler. He drives through his target. He is not afraid to be physical. He is also coachable. He adapted well to the way John Matsko’s system and style. The way he run blocked against Arizona is completely different than the way he blocks now as a brawling left guard with a mean streak.

He is also fairly solid against the pass rush. Finesse interior rushers or stunting edge rushers sometimes give him problems. He lacks elite athleticism so sometimes he gets outmatched against quicker pass rushers. He has a good anchor, however, and rarely gets pushed back.

Schweitzer is really solid. He and Cornelius Lucas are on a pretty lengthy list of value contracts signed in free agency this offseason. Players like Lucas and Schweitzer set the foundation for winning teams and cultures. Schweitzer, like Lucas, was a steal free agent signing.
