Defensive Players

EDGE Montez Sweat

Before the 2020 season, many analysts pointed to the defensive line and proclaimed that it would be the best unit for the Washington Football Team.  It proved to be an accurate assessment and Montez Sweat was one of the reasons why the defensive line found success this season.

Sweat was a force that few teams could handle.  Here are some impressive numbers for the 2020 season.

More from Riggo's Rag

  • Nine sacks
  • One interception for 15 yards and a touchdown
  • Six pass deflections
  • Two forced fumbles
  • 12 tackles for lost yardage
  • 20 quarterback hits

Sweat was considered to be a risky selection in the first round of the 2019 draft due to medical concerns.  Those reports were proven to be false.  Washington took advantage of the situation and was able to add the former Mississippi State standout.

For his efforts in 2020, Montez Sweat is awarded the third game ball for this season and he is our choice for Defensive MVP.

EDGE Chase Young

As a beloved rookie this season, Chase Young has captured the hearts of Washington Football Team fans from around the world.  He plays with a tenacious, relentless motor and began to have an impact starting with his first game in a WFT uniform.  Teammates made him a team captain late in the season – a rarity for any rookie.

Here is a look at his stats this season.

  • 7.5 sacks
  • Three fumble recoveries, including one for a 48-yard touchdown
  • Four forced fumbles
  • Four pass deflections
  • 10 tackles for a loss
  • 12 quarterback hits

Young is feared by opposing offenses and he will only get better in the years to come.  For his efforts in 2020, Chase Young is awarded the fourth game ball for this season.
