Key numbers from Washington Football Team’s playoff-clinching win
Key numbers from the Washington Football Team’s win over the Eagles.
They say winning organizations win ugly games, and there couldn’t have been anything much uglier than the Washington Football Team’s 20-14 playoff-clinching win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Does this team deserve to be in the playoffs? That is up for debate. The play on the field against Philadelphia didn’t seem to warrant it. Alex Smith threw two ugly interceptions, Smith and Steven Sims both fumbled late but luckily recovered their fumbles, and though Nate Sudfield closed out the game for the Eagles, Washington still won by just six points.
Heading into a game with perhaps the greatest quarterback of all-time in Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are on a four-game winning streak, this victory and the team’s play on the field doesn’t inspire much confidence.
But, in spite of that, this team didn’t get here simply by its play on the field, but through its heart. The culture is changing, Coach Ron Rivera’s inner-“A.P.E.” mentality of attitude, preparation, and effort is working, and you can never count this team out.
This team has overcome a name change, ownership in-fighting, sexual harassment cases off the field, the departure of Trent Williams and Quinton Dunbar, the loss of Kyle Allen, the multiple adventures of Dwayne Haskins, and more.
With a coach that overcame cancer and a quarterback that overcame what should have been a career-ending injury that nearly cost him his life, the one thing you can never question is this team’s heart and willingness to battle. That bodes well for the future regardless of the outcome of the Wild Card match-up against the Buccaneers.
Let’s get to some key numbers from Washington’s sloppy win over the Eagles.
