No. 1 – Washington has little margin for error in Weeks 16 and 17

The Washington Football Team could afford to lose this game in the context of the playoffs, so the loss doesn’t sting as much as it would if the stakes were higher. But depending on how the rest of the NFC East games play out this week, Washington might need to win out to claim the division.

Thus far, Washington hasn’t received much help from the rest of the NFC East. The Cowboys beat the 49ers with little issue. The Eagles are right with the Cardinals, and are threatening to win. And the Giants, who play the Browns tonight, have an air of unpredictability about them.

If all the NFC East teams win, Washington will still be tied for the division lead. But their margin for error will be much thinner. New York would be 6-8, already possessing the tiebreaker after sweeping the WFT. The Eagles would be just a half-game back at 5-8-1, with a surging offense led by Jalen Hurts, and the Cowboys, at 5-9, would be just one game behind.

The Washington Football Team remains the favorite with their defense, but a loss against Carolina next week could take fate out of their hands. And that’s something they can’t allow to happen if they want to head to the playoffs.
