Washington Football Team: Three keys to victory in Week 15 vs. Seattle
No. 3 – Get Terry McLaurin the football
An underrated storyline the past two weeks has been the lack of stat-sheet production for Terry McLaurin. Even in a season where he has consistently produced — evidenced by his eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark against the 49ers — he only has combined for four catches for 38 yards in the past two games.
Granted, the Washington Football Team still won those two games, but it is a trend that will need to be bucked to win Sunday. Especially with a new quarterback at the helm and the continued absence of Antonio Gibson.
Last week, I said Scott Turner needed to find creative ways to run the ball. This week, he needs to find creative ways to get Terry McLaurin the football.
It is clear what the opposing team’s plan is on defense: Make someone other than Terry McLaurin beat us. With the absence of Antonio Gibson, that is a much easier task to accomplish. The secondary brackets McLaurin with two defenders on practically every play.
The Washington Football Team needs a big day from Terry McLaurin against Seattle. To work around the constant double teams, Scott Turner should get McLaurin the ball on screen passes, quick slants, jet sweeps, and any other creative plays he can think of.
Given that Terry McLaurin is one of the league’s best after the catch, simply getting him the ball will produce good results, no matter how many defenders are assigned to him. And here is what should be the message to Dwayne Haskins: When Terry McLaurin is not double-covered, throw it to Terry McLaurin.
Find creative ways to get your best player, Terry McLaurin, the football. Let that Ohio State connection of Haskins-to-McLaurin shine. Feed Terry.
If the Washington Football Team gets Haskins comfortable early, gets to Russell Wilson early and often, and gets Terry McLaurin the football, they can set themselves up well to beat the Seattle Seahawks.
