Washington Football Team: Mini-bye mock draft sees team target Alabama defender
Round 4
Jamie Newman, Quarterback, Wake Forest (6-4, 230)
Jamie Newman was set to be the starter at Georgia this season after deciding to play one more year as a graduate transfer. Late in the summer, Newman decided to forgo his final season for the Bulldogs and enter the draft.
Newman was one of the better quarterbacks in the nation during his time at Wake Forest, but the keener competition that he would’ve faced was going to be a huge benefit to him. It was possible that Newman could’ve produced a season that landed him in the second round – possibly late in the first round.
The decision not to play for the Bulldogs likely drops his draft status a round or two. He is solid on shorter routes, slants, and intermediate throws. He has very good pocket presence, but he can use his legs to escape and pick up some good yardage. Newman does need to work on his accuracy on long passes.
Charles Snowden, Outside Linebacker, Virginia (6-7, 235)
Charles Snowden is very tall for a linebacker, but don’t let the lanky frame fool you. He is a solid defender that is able to shut down running backs at the point of attack in any game. Snowden is decent in coverage, but he could use a bit of improvement.
Snowden is able to cover tight ends and slot receivers effectively in zone coverage schemes, especially on shorter passes. His impressive length often disrupts quick slant passes. Snowden can bite too heavy on head and body fakes at times. Once a few deficiencies in coverage are corrected (and most of it is easily correctable), Snowden should become a solid addition to the linebacker corps.
Other Possible Fourth Round Targets:
- Jake Ferguson, Tight End, Wisconsin
- Chubba Hubbard, Running Back, Oklahoma State
- Pete Werner, Linebacker, Ohio State
- Caden Stearns, Free Safety, Texas
- Landon Dickerson, Offensive Guard, Alabama
