By the Numbers: Washington Football Team’s win vs. Dallas Cowboys
Other Odds and Ends
It was a welcome site to see Scott Turner’s creativity with play-calling. The success of Washington’s trick plays was a total juxtaposition to Dallas’s execution of their trick plays.
As Turner gets more time in the offense and familiarity with the players, I think we will start seeing a diversity of calls, which should excite fans for the future.
First, there was the play where Alex Smith tossed it back to Logan Thomas, who threw a 28-yard completion to McLaurin, reminiscent of his V-Tech quarterbacking days. The fact that Turner called this play early in the game shows the coaching staff’s confidence in the team to execute.
Then, there was the Annexation of Puerto Rico play that Coach Rivera said was inspired by the movie “Little Giants”.
It was also nice to see Dwayne Haskins looking involved on the sidelines and helping Alex Smith up after he scrambled for three yards on a 2nd and 9, late in the fourth quarter. To me, that play epitomized Haskins’s growth as a player and teammate and showed the respect he has for Smith.
Overall, Washington could not have asked for a better way to cap off Thanksgiving. After humiliating a division-rival on national television and taking the division lead, there’s not much else to say except, “That’s how you play football.”
