Stud No. 1 – RB Antonio Gibson

We all wondered what the Washington Football Team was thinking when they selected Antonio Gibson at the top of the third round, essentially in the late second-round range. Now we can wonder no more.

Gibson exploded on the national stage in Week 12, rumbling for 110 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries, while also logging 21 yards on five receptions. The Thanksgiving Gibson was the one that Ron Rivera and Scott Turner envisioned for themselves when making the selection, and Gibson is finally growing into the role meant for him.

The rookie can still stand to develop his vision, but his pure talent and athleticism has been a major separating factor for him. Gibson hit his lanes with decisiveness against Dallas, and when he did, his terrifying explosiveness at 228 pounds was on display. Gibson was gone once he hit open field, and in congestion, he proved to be very difficult to tackle.

Gibson can still be involved more as a receiver, but he’s quickly becoming one of the best available playmaking running backs in the NFC, and one could honestly argue for more. Through 11 games, Gibson now has 645 yards and 11 touchdowns on 139 attempts. He can score from anywhere, he rarely goes down on first contact, and as he develops, his value for the WFT offense is skyrocketing.
