Washington Football Team offense vs. Cowboys defense

Defensively, the Cowboys still present a relatively favorable matchup for the Washington Football Team. Mike Nolan has struggled to cater his scheme to the talent in Dallas, and the resulting inconsistency has rendered the Cowboys’ defense as one of the worst units in the league.

With that having been said, players are slowly starting to come into form for the Cowboys, and in their recent surprise win over the Minnesota Vikings, it took a last-minute stop to give Dallas the edge. There’s still plenty to work on, but Dallas isn’t in as much disarray as they were when Washington last played them.

The Cowboys’ defensive line still figures to be a modest threat. Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is starting to play at a high level once again, and in the secondary, safety Donovan Wilson has taken up a role as a playmaker for the Cowboys’ defense.

For Washington, the key will be to use their strengths against Dallas, and luckily, that will allow them to be somewhat flexible, so long as they execute. Antonio Gibson has been running well in recent weeks, and Washington’s newly emergent receiving core consisting of Terry McLaurin, Cam Sims, and Steven Sims can take the advantage over Dallas’ young secondary. Even in Dallas’ last win, Kirk Cousins threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns.
