No. 5 – Kamren Curl gets his first interception

Young guys gonna young guy. Kamren Curl had a volatile starting debut at strong safety against the Giants. He made some plays, as he’s done all year, and he also helped the Giants make plays, as Washington players have a habit of doing.

With that being said, Curl has a bit of an excuse; earlier in the year, Curl logged two starts as a slot defender, but with Landon Collins out for the season, he’s being forced to spend more time in two-high alignments with Deshazor Everett. It’s a position that doesn’t profile as well for Curl, but the Washington Football Team is still finding ways to get him in the box.

With that being said, Curl has, in general, exceed expectations. He’s shown more explosiveness than what was expected, and his instincts allow him to play with urgency and confidence, and another week with full-time preparation as the starter could allow him to build on his 11-tackle, one-sack outing against New York.

Washington clearly likes to blitz Curl when they can, but the seventh-round rookie is also adept in the short-to-intermediate ranges, and given his play style, he may not go much longer without a play on the ball. I’m betting that Week 10, against an impatient Lions offense lacking healthy weapons, could be the day.
