Gibson is reminiscent of Brian Mitchell

As I look at Gibson, I’m reminded of a guy Washington drafted 30 years ago.  This guy defined the role of Swiss Army Knife and should be in the Hall of Fame with his credentials which include being second in All-Purpose yards in NFL history.  Of course, the man I speak of is the legendary Brian Mitchell.

Brian Mitchell proved that a dynamic playmaker doesn’t need a defined role.  Mitchell returned kicks and punts and this is where he had the most value for the teams he played for.

Although Mitchell started some games at running back, he was never forced into the role.  He was always a solid contributor out of the backfield whether it was carrying the ball or catching balls.  His role was undefined, as a result, he was tough to game plan against.

His career was a success and he was a major part of his team’s success because he was never forced to be something he was not.

There’s a lot of similarities between Gibson and Mitchell.  This simple-minded fan thinks it’s time the team revaluates how they’re using Gibson and be ok with a role less defined.  It worked out just fine for Mitchell who is a Super Bowl Champion and should be in the Hall of Fame.
