4. S Kam Curl

Last week was Kam Curl‘s first start as a member of the Washington Football Team. He was replacing Landon Collins after the big-money safety suffered a season-ending injury.

So, how did Curl fare? Well, he did just fine. He made some mistakes and notably allowed Evan Engram to reel in a TD, but for a seventh-round rookie, he demonstrated upside and the potential to be a quality starter.

I recognized Curl as a stud after the game. Here’s what I said about his performance.

"The main thing to note was that Curl played aggressively at the safety spot. He made some plays for the Washington defense. Sure, not all of them worked out, but the fact that he’s willing to take chances shows that he’s confident and that is a good sign moving forward. If Curl can grow and learn with more playing time, that could turn into a big positive for Washington despite the team playing in what is looking like another losing season."

The growth is what we’ll be looking for from Curl in this one. He needs to make fewer mistakes and will see another interesting matchup against tight end T.J. Hockenson. He can’t let Hockenson get by him like Engram did, so the work that Curl does on him will be critical to watch.

If Curl struggles and Hockenson can get open frequently, Washington will have a lot of trouble containing the Detroit offense and staying in this game. This is a nice test for Curl and hopefully, he will show enough to continue to give the Washington fans and coaching staff faith in him moving forward.
