Score Prediction

This one looks fairly even at face value. The Washington Football Team won’t have a chance if they continue to pile up turnovers like they did last week. But Detroit is similarly underwhelming from an offensive efficiency standpoint, and their defense isn’t good enough to keep them in the game if their offense falters.

It seems notable that Washington is heading to Detroit for this game, but the home-field advantage hasn’t helped the Lions this season; all three of their wins have come on the road, and they’re 0-3 at Ford Field so far in 2020. Of course, the Washington Football Team is also 0-3 in away games, so something will have to give here.

Purely in terms of personnel, I like Detroit’s offense slightly more than Washington’s offense, but I like Washington’s defense a little bit more than Detroit’s stoppage unit. I also like Washington’s coaching staff a little bit better; Matt Patricia has struggled to grow in Detroit, and week-to-week gaffes in situational awareness make them an especially vulnerable team.

I’m going with the Washington Football Team by a slim margin in this one. Detroit’s offense isn’t as explosive as it was in Stafford’s peak, and Alex Smith’s ascension back to the starting lineup might be the emotional boost Washington needs to kickstart a late-season run. Smith won’t be perfect, but he’ll build on the positive notes from last week, and Detroit’s bottom-tier pass-rush unit will give him the space he needs to uphold his confidence.

Score Prediction: WAS 27, DET 23
