Washington Football Team Dud: Slow start off a bye

Hypothetically speaking, Washington should have been much better rested for this game than the Giants. They should’ve been able to come out and hit them in the mouth right away, build a lead, and keep them at an arm’s length for most of the contest.

Instead, that never materialized. Washington came out flat and unfocused at the beginning of the contest. As a result, the Giants were able to take advantage of Washington’s early miscues and build an insurmountable lead.

The blame for this is a team-wide one. There had been some talk from the players and coaches alike about wanting to build on their momentum and that their bye week was ill-timed for building on that momentum. Evidently, they all let that get to their head and showed up unfocused in Week 9 as a result.

The comeback effort from Washington was strong. They did what they could to work back into the game. That said, the fact of the matter is that they squandered a chance to come out and earn a win. Had they been on their game from the outset, they may have had a chance to do that.

Hopefully, Washington’s effort and performance early in games is better moving forward. Either way, it was a massive dud on Sunday as they should’ve been the ones playing with more energy. And instead, it was the visitors.
