Highs, Part 2

Play Calling

I know a lot of fans have been frustrated with Scott Turner’s play-calling thus far in the season, but it looks like Sunday was a day of growth for him as well. With Isaiah Wright and Antonio Gandy-Golden out, Washington utilized more two-TE and two-RB formations to throw the Cowboys defense off balance.

On both Gibson’s 40-yard run and his 12-yard touchdown, Washington was able to use J.D. McKissic as a decoy, which allowed for larger running lanes for Gibson. This should be something the team continues to work on during the bye week as it could be something to further utilize throughout the rest of the season.

Antonio Gibson Goes Off

You know you’ve had a good game when you get respect from Cowboys fan, LeBron James.

In all seriousness though, Gibson looked more decisive with his runs and was able to show his explosiveness with a couple of big runs today.

Dallas entered the game ranked second to last in the NFL in both yards per carry allowed and rushing yards allowed per game, and Washington and Gibson were able to take advantage.

Gibson finished with 128 yards and a touchdown on 20 rushes, becoming the first 100-yard rusher for Washington this season.

“I think he’s just getting more and more confident as a guy coming out of the backfield in terms of having to run inside,” said Coach Ron Rivera, in his postgame press conference.
