Dud No. 3 – Dustin Hopkins from over 40 yards out

The Washington Football Team was up by at least 19 points for over half of this outing, so Dustin Hopkins’ play didn’t fall too far under the microscope, and there wasn’t a lot of pressure on the kicker to contribute to the win. But Hopkins had another somewhat uneven showing against Dallas, and it’s something to watch moving forward.

Hopkins made one of two field goal attempts in the Cowboys game, missing a 44-yard attempt late in the game. Hopkins’ totals on the year now amount to eight makes on 12 attempts, and past 40 yards, Hopkins is a mere three-for-seven.

It’s only a seven-game sample size, but a 66.7% conversion rate, and a conversion rate of less than 50% from over 40 yards out, is not an optimal expectation from a kicker. Hopkins needs to sharpen his performance, or else his play could cost Washington wins in the future.
