5. Saahdiq Charles sees his first NFL snaps in relief of Wes Martin

After a long stay on the injury report, Saahdiq Charles is finally healthy after being a full participant in practice. The calf injury that kept the fourth-round pick sidelined has gone away and now, he’ll fight for a spot on the team’s offensive line.

Washington is a bit banged-up up front with Brandon Scherff out, so there is an opening for the team to have a third backup offensive lineman active. Cornelius Lucas and Keith Ismael figure to be the two interior backups, but Charles may have a chance to suit up as well.

It’s tough to know what Charles has shown in practice, but if Washington has the room to activate him, they should consider doing it. They don’t figure to do well as a team against Baltimore and perhaps in the later stages of the game, they could get Charles his first NFL experience.

Or, the team could also elect to have Charles available and ready to take over for Wes Martin if needed. Martin has struggled badly in three games as a starter this year and if he can’t handle the Ravens, it may be time for Washington to consider plugging in another one of their linemen just to see what they can do.

Charles may have been drafted as a tackle, but he has the skills needed to play guy. It may be in the best interest of Washington to get him some snaps there and see what he can do. That’s why we’ll say he’ll relieve Martin at some point in this game to generate some tape in his first NFL action.
