No. 5 – RG Wes Schweitzer

The only reason Wes Schweitzer’s hit the field in 2020 is to fill in for an injured Brandon Scherff, but in his relief reps at right guard, Schweitzer has performed better than expected, and has out-shined second-year interior lineman Wes Martin.

In Week 3 against Cleveland, Schweitzer was particularly strong, holding his own on the interior as a run blocker and executing his assignments effectively as a pass blocker. Schweitzer is actually a decent athlete for his size, and on Sunday, he showcased more functional strength than what was originally expected from him.

Against a stacked Ravens interior line that includes Calais Campbell, Derek Wolfe, Brandon Williams, and Justin Ellis, Washington’s blockers on the inside will have to be on top of their game in order to make Dwayne Haskins comfortable. And as we’ve seen, Haskins’ comfort level has a heavy influence on his overall success.

If Schweitzer can do his part for a second straight week, and contribute to Haskins’ comfort, he can not only help them achieve that, but maybe prove himself as an option at left guard when Scherff returns.
