Washington Football Team: Five players to watch in Week 1
By Ian Cummings
No. 2 – Washington’s defensive line
I’m going to cheat here and I’m pretty sure you can understand why.
Washington’s defensive line has a chance to be a downright menacing unit. Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Matt Ioannidis will all supplement the attack on the inside, while Chase Young and Montez Sweat, two recent first-round picks, will rush around the edges.
The Washington Football Team’s defensive line will be going up against a short-handed Eagles offensive line that’s missing starters Andre Dillard and Brandon Brooks for the season, while also potentially dealing with a less-than-healthy Lane Johnson. There is a potential mismatch there, one that could heavily impact the game’s result.
Sifting through the team’s talented front, it’s hard to find a storyline that stands out above the rest. Chase Young gets his first game action. Montez Sweat kicks off what should be a standout season. Matt Ioannidis continues to wreak havoc on the interior. There’s so much to watch from this group, and they alone might make this defense exceed expectations.
