Predicting the Washington Football Team’s practice squad for 2020
Defensive Line
EDGE Jordan Brailford. Brailford came close to making the 53-man roster, but ultimately, this year’s seventh-round pick James Smith-Williams was able to beat him for a spot. Brailford has good athletic ability and could crack the edge rush rotation if an injury occurs. Seasoning him here and preparing him for the departure of Ryan Anderson in free agency seems like a sensible move.
EDGE Nate Orchard. Orchard is another undersized edge player who may not perfectly fit a 4-3 defense, but he has the skills needed to make impact plays at the position. After what he did last season for Washington after being signed off the street, he should get a chance to make the practice squad and, like Brailford, could be in line for a bigger role in the future if an injury occurs or if a player leaves via free agency.
DL Ryan Bee. Bee stands a towering 6-foot-7 and was highly productive in college, logging at least four sacks every season. He has inside/outside versatility and would’ve made the team if the defensive line wasn’t such a massive strength for Washington. With another year to develop, Bee could put himself in position to challenge for a bigger role in 2021.
DL David Bada. Bada will be with Washington this season no matter what as part of the NFL’s International Pathway Program. He can stay on the practice squad via an exception and not count to the 16-man total. If he does end up on the PS via an exception, he can’t be on the active roster this season but because he plays at a position of strength, that’s ideal for Washington anyway.
