Washington Football Team: Final roster projection before cut day
Practice Squad
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, NFL practice squads have expanded to 16 spots for 2020. That includes four “protected” players that other teams can’t sign.
There are the 16 players that I think Washington will end up keeping around for the upcoming season.
Offense
- QB Steven Montez
- WR Isaiah Wright
- WR Johnathon Johnson
- WR Tony Brown
- TE Hale Hentges
- TE Richard Rodgers
- OT David Steinmetz
- C Ross Pierschbacher
- OL Michael Liedtke
Defense
- EDGE James Smith-Williams
- DL Ryan Bee
- LB Donald Payne
- CB Aaron Colvin
- CB Danny Johnson
- CB Ryan Lewis
- S Jeremy Reaves
Washington will also get a chance to keep DL David Bada around on the practice squad as a part of the NFL’s International Pathway Program.
This group seems like a good one to keep around. There’s plenty of depth in the secondary, receiving corps, and on the offensive line, the biggest weaknesses on Washington’s team. If they have any struggles in those areas, they can bring these players to give them a shot before trying external solutions as well.
We’ll soon see if our final roster projection meshes with Washington’s vision. They have to cut their team down to 53 men by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. That won’t be the end of their roster reshuffling before the 2020 season — there will be some procedural moves to keep players eligible for the IR-DFR list — but it will be one of the biggest steps remaining before NFL action returns.
