Tight Ends

Trying to predict how many tight ends will be on the roster is a bit challenging, but it is likely to be three players and nothing more.

Jeremy Sprinkle had a breakout season in 2019 – at least by his standards – and that happened with the quarterback position being a bit unsettled.  With an improved signal-caller situation in 2020, look for Sprinkle to build on his statistics this season.

Prediction for Sprinkle: 32 receptions, 317 yards, three touchdowns

More from Commanders News

Logan Thomas was a free agent target for the WFT in the offseason and he should be a solid asset as a primary blocking tight end.  His best season as a receiver came last year when he hauled in 16 receptions.  Yes, you are reading that correctly.  16 receptions.

In all fairness, he started life in the NFL as a quarterback in 2014 and made the switch to tight end in 2017.  There are some signs that he could break out this season as a receiver, but he is still unproven.

Prediction for Thomas: 29 receptions, 292 yards, 13 yards rushing, three touchdowns

Hale Hentges began his NFL career as an Indianapolis Colt last year, but he was released just three weeks into the season – much to the dismay of many Colts fans on social media and we know why.  Hentges flashed a fair amount of potential after the WFT quickly claimed him off of waivers.  He should continue to progress as a good option in 2020 and beyond.

Prediction for Hentges: 21 receptions, 194 yards, two touchdowns
